Hey, late last night my computer started to act funny so i shut it down and rebooted it but then i got this error: Windows coud not boot because one of the following files is corrupt or missing: \Windows\system32\config\system. Now i started the repair consule up and everyone says it should prompt and ask u what windows installation I would like to log on to, but it doesnt. I try and these commands under the repair consule like microsoft says: md tmp copy c:\windows\system32\config\system c:\windows\tmp\system.bak copy c:\windows\system32\config\software c:\windows\tmp\software.bak copy c:\windows\system32\config\sam c:\windows\tmp\sam.bak copy c:\windows\system32\config\security c:\windows\tmp\security.bak copy c:\windows\system32\config\default c:\windows\tmp\default.bak
but it says acess denied for some reason. I do not have a admin account and never have changed any of the passwords. Oh and by the way i hsve an xps 400. Please help/
hello, my father is having a similar problem. i wanted to check one thing. i found the following link on the microsoft site: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545/ however, it says: Warning Do not use the procedure that is described in this article if your computer has an OEM-installed operating system. The system hive on OEM installations creates passwords and user accounts that did not exist previously. If you use the procedure that is described in this article, you may not be able to log back into the recovery console to restore the original registry hives. he bought the computer from dell, with xp already installed. can someone please let me know what the best solution is to this problem? thank you in advance!
