There is a free downloadable program available to do what you want.  Sorry, but I don't remember what it was but I found it using google.  Try googling for "saving streaming audio" and that may get you to the program. 

BTW, this is more an "Other Software" item, not a Windows XP issue.

There's a website that has a tool to do it. I tried to google it and found this: javimoya.com/blog/download-videos/ I know that that was essentially the site that did it, but it's not working for me now (it may have changed locations. I'll try to dig it up again and let you know). The tool downloads it as a .flv file. The site also describes how to convert that to avi, mpg, etc. CinemaForge is the easiest, which I think is a free program.

Also, Firefox has a plug in for this. When I first tried to download one with the above tool after installing Firefox, Firefox offered a plug in. It may have been a plug in associated with that particular tool, I'm not sure. I think I have that tool bookmarked on my work computer, so if I find it there tomorrow, I'll post it here.

Well, the link I gave earlier should have worked (http://javimoya.com/blog/download-videos/), but it doesn't seem to be working. So I don't know if that is down permanently or not. I think that http://videodownloader.net is supposed to take you to the same thing, but that doesn't work either.

It's a good tool. Hopefully it isn't down forever.

I think that the flv viewer mentioned will allow you to view the flv without converting it to mpg or avi. However, you would still need to download the video as an flv file, I believe.

Yes, if you use IE, watch the video until it's done.

Open your temporary internet files, and look for a data file containing the words "Get_Video" Copy, and save to one of your folders.

Next, rename the file. Say it's a song called "Misery"

Rename the file to "misery.flv" (without quotes)


And it should play in an FLV player.

Firefox has an extension the goes in your statusbar. Click the icon, Right Click and save link as in the button in the dialog window. The extension is called "videodownloader".

Save as an .flv file for it to play.

And finally, if you use Opera:

Tools-advanced--Cache

Look for "get_video" (maybe a little longer than that) On the right pane, click and download it. Save as an .flv file to play.

Nah.  Once you designate FLV Player as the preferred "Open with..." player for such files, the video(s) you view online will show up in your Temporary Internet Files with the desired FLV association/icon.  Just copy them from there to the folder of your choice, and they'll open/run in FLV Player even if you're offline.

Not at all necessary.  You should wait until the file has finished loading, which can be determined by watching the indicator in the player, but you don't have to sit through the whole thing to save it.  In all probability, you wouldn't be able to copy the file from the Temporary Internet Files unless it was completely downloaded.

Thanks again for all the advice guys - I downloaded Floobys' link and it recorded the item perfectly.

Only problem is that when I send the file to my CD/DVD disc, it plays on  Dell but does not play on the home DVD player or my wifes portable DVD player...but, have made progress and your advice is much appreciated!
