I have a recently acquired a 2014 released XPS 8700 (i7 4770, Z87 mobo).
Whilst updating the drivers manualy, I noticed Dell has a driver update for the XPS 8700 to enable compatibility with NVIDIA 700 through 900 series GPU compatibility (750ti and 980 being examples).
This alarmed me; does this mean I cannot install a more modern GPU (like say, an AMD 6600xt, or NVIDIA RTX 3060)?
I have scanned all pertinent posts between the XPS 8700 and graphics cards, but all posts deal with older cards, and others have contributors mentioning the bios has to be updated etc. but no mention of anyone installing a GPU more recent than the 10 series.
Has anyone successfully installed a more modern GPU and verified it has compatibility, or did Dell aggressively incorporate planned obsolesence with the XPS 8700?
i was curious too, im getting parts for my new build one at a time but ive been using the 8700 and wanted to see if the 5700xt would work in it, upgraded my psu to a 700W and dont even know where to go next

Does anyone know if Nvidia 2000/3000 series or AMD 6000 series are compatible with the XPS 8700?
(already upgraded PSU)
