It has a 105 Watt TDP rating. When running stock with an AIO liquid cooler it should not go to far above 70 C when running 1 run of Cinebench.

On air I am sure it will go higher. How much higher I am not sure, but since the cooler they put on it is a low profile cooler I would say significantly higher since that cooler does not have enough volume to absorb the heat. 90 C might be normal on air in an Alienware case with low profile cooler.

What kind of stress test?

Cinebench it should be around 70 C.

Furmark, or very small FFT's in prime 95 should be low 90's C.

Not every stress test stresses the same way, so you have to know exactly what you use to stress test to compare temperatures with others. I use a 3700X, but I get the same temps with a 2600X on a different system.

90 Celsius on Cinebench is not acceptable at stock CPU settings, if that is what they are trying to tell you. 

If you manually overclocked, or played with the PBO settings using Ryzen Master, it could be normal.

But at stock, no. The CPU will severely down clock at that temperature. While it will run at 90 and higher, your performance will be abysmal due to the low frequency it will run at.

Hi this is new to me so bear with me but when running games like call of duty and fortnite it runs between 75 -80 with everything on ultra settings but never goes higher than 81.

Not to sure what I’m doing with cinebench r23 as there are several options but when I run a test on it the CPU stays at 90 degrees when the CPU is running at 100%

I believe it’s factory overclocked by default and can’t be turned off

Alienware support made me record a file when gaming for an hour and they checked the core frequencies and said there were no performance drops.

@diggs1984  What BIOs version is your machine running?  Are you on 2.1.0? 

I've been racking my brain over temps and power throttling myself.  I've been testing things out the last couple nights and came up with this:

First - Alienware mobo's and cooling are terrible.  The mobo's cripple performance and the cooling is entirely inadequate.

Second - Dell is probably right when they said you aren't loosing any performance.  I loaded up Doom Eternal last night and monitored the CPU usage.  It never got anywhere near 100%.  In fact, I still had max all core speeds, but was only using a fraction of the available CPU power.  When you run a synthetic test like Cinebench, the CPU usage jumps to 100%.
