Hi, I'm buying a Alienware Aurora R10 with 16GB Dual Channel HyperX™ FURY DDR4 XMP at 3200MHz; I'd like to do one of the following: 1) buy an additional 16GB from other brand (DDR4 and 3200MHz). Would there be any compatibility problem? Do the two 16gb memories need to be the exactly the same or as long it's DDR4 and 3200mhz any other memory will do? 2) Replace it with G.Skill Trident Z Neo 32GB DDR4-3600MHz. Would there be any issue in using this with the R10 since it's 3600MHz? Dell only sells RAM up to 3400mhz. Thank you for your help

To recap: 1) I can add any other 2x8 RAM as long as frequency and latency are the same 2) I can't replace with SKILL Trident Z Neo (For AMD Ryzen) Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin RGB DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3600 because frequency is above 3.4k allowed by Dell. However, I could buy G.SKILL Trident Z Neo (For AMD Ryzen) Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin RGB DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 or CORSAIR - Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB (2PK 16GB) 3.2GHz PC4-25600 as the meet the requrirement Thank you, it's really helpful

Hi, they have to be bought as a kit as there is absolutely no guarantee they will work together as dual-channel, even if they seem identical.

Most here suggest Crucial as they guarantee compatibility. I have Corsair 3200Mhz in my R8.
The Ryzen R10 Service manual says 3400Mhz is compatible which means it has been tested, if that is what you are buying, the R11 has the same limit, max 3400Mhz. This is what Dell has approved.
Some R11 owners recently have already got 3600Mhz RAM working without issues.
Many R10 owners have discussed this issue here. Only 15 pages so I hope you find an answer from page 6.
I am not a RAM expert, others here have seen a lot more over the years.
I did add 2x4GB to my 4x2GB in R3 long ago, to have 2x2GB and 2x4GB, 12GB ram in all. I chose the same manufacturer and the same Latency Timings.
The as long as it is compatible, is related to RAM that has been tested and works by others here. Some people have not been able to get RAM working, AW throws a bios error on the Memory and the computer will refuse to start.
Most people use Crucial as the manufacturer guarantees it will work. HyperX and Corsair I have seen, but not much GSkill. Wait a bit for others to help clarify as there is a big risk if not confirmed.

You should be able to add any another 2x8GB compatible. I think the latency timings need to be the same. I forgot the exact consequences if they are not.
What seems to come to memory is the System cannot manage different frequencies and timings at the same time. Normally it will lower all ram installed to the highest common denominator.
To be sure always buy the same Latency Timings and choose known compatible manufacturers, safer with the same manufacturer but not mandatory.
No, it does not work like that. The CAS latency on the HyperfuryX dual channel kit at 3,200 Mhz is 20-20-20-52-72 at 1.250 volt. You can double check yours using a free program called CPU-Z, and under SPD tab it will show you the XMP and other profiles of the modules you have installed.
Those numbers are actually very high (meaning slow memory), and most replacement memory from other manufacturers will be something like 18-18-18, or 16-18-18 timings.
The problem you will run into is voltage, as most 3,200 Mhz or higher modules run at 1.35 volt and not 1.250 volts. If you mix and match different manufacturers you are going to run into all kind of issues, since there's way more timings involved than just the ones I listed above. And of course the voltages.
That's why they made XMP profiles, so the motherboard bios can read that profile and apply all the correct settings automatically. If you mix and match that will not happen.
I would strongly recommend you replace your current sticks with a dual or quad kit, and do some google searches on compatibility with your type of Alienware. Reddit is a good source. Crucial is a memory vendor, and you can check online if the memory you selected is compatible with your Alienware. They guarantee it, but I am not sure how much water that would hold. There are threads on reddit about people who have successfully replaced the memory and included the exact part number they used.
Just remember to buy a dual or quad kit, not individual sticks. Very important to buy the kits. Even 2 separate sticks that look and are labeled identical might not work together well because they could contain different components or revisions of components that are not compatible with each other. If you need 4 sticks, buy a quad kit and not 2 dual kits.
The retail and Dell HyperX fury have different XMP profiles so a mixed set can't support xmp. In theory you could post with mismatched RAM and xmp disabled, but the Aurora is very picky so it would likely be on a case by case success rate. You best chance of getting it to work is one in black, other white, dimm slots, with xmp disabled. Also try disabling windows fast startup.
In another words, it will not run at 3200, only if it can be clocked on the same XMP profile.
