Renesas fire and a worldwide shortage of computer chips have wreaked havoc on auto industry production schedules.
Everything that uses chips including memory and processors and chip-sets etc is in short supply. Even the third quarter improved output from TSMC and other chip foundries, won’t be enough to fill the backlog. Even from October through December, the computer / auto industry still won’t have enough chips. The problem affects all vendors including Apple, Dell, HP, INTEL, AMD, NVIDIA etc.
There are complete R12's for sale with the GPU stripped out.
If you plan doing this only buy system with 1000W power supply or you will regret it. Do Buy it now with credit card using guest account (you may need a new email address if you dont have more than 1) so they don't mess up your ebay account.
The motherboard for the R12 is a previous generation motherboard using the Z490 chipset. It was made compatible with the latest generation CPU's using a bios update.
The "correct" chipset for the 11th generation Intel CPU's would be the Z590.
As for cheap versus expensive, no pricing is available for this board. You would have to base yourself on visuals and features to determine the overall quality and associated pricing would it be available for purchase.
I would say the motherboard is a weak point for the R12. I am not a big fan of them and I think there's room for improvement.
As far as the NVME drive, you will get around 3,500 Mbps sequential read/write. These are not PCIe 4.0 x 4 slots, so 7,000 Mbps is not possible with the M2 slot according to the manual.
I do believe another user tested it, but I forgot what the result was.
