The four screws holding the decorative top dust cover/faceplate are not necessarily the same as the screws holding the heatsink or fan assembly. On the GTX 1070 FE, those faceplate screws are located around the shroud, including screws near the top and underside close to the display bracket . Start with a PH0 bit. If it slips, stop and try PH00—do not force it, because the screws strip easily. Use firm downward pressure and a precision driver rather than a full-size screwdriver.
Before opening the card, disconnect it from power, discharge static electricity, and remember that removing the cooler may affect thermal-pad placement and any remaining warranty. Keep screws separated by location, since they have different lengths.
Disassembly Steps for the Front Faceplate Remove Front Hex Fasteners: Place the card fan-side up on an anti-static surface . Use the 1.5 mm and 2.0 mm Hex bits to remove the exposed hex screws from the top silver casing and clear acrylic window frame .
Slide the Clear Window Off: Once the top hex screws are removed, the transparent acrylic window and silver heatsink cover will slide backward away from the blower fan .
Remove Side Phillips Screws: Locate the small PH00/PH0 screws securing the black fan surround and side casing .
Disconnect the LED & Fan Headers: Gently tilt the shroud . Unplug the small 2-pin green "GEFORCE GTX" LED power cable and the 4-pin blower fan header from the PCB before pulling the cover completely away .
