Bought an Alienware m15 R2 in USA in the month of Nov 2019. Got back to India. Worked fine for six months. Suddenly, the keyboard stops working after restarting it from sleep mode, save for a few function keys.
Ran the diagnostics to check and all the keys are working perfectly. Also, the keyboard is working in the setup and boot options menu.
Updated the windows and it says keyboard is locked. (refer to the image attached)
Contacted the Dell support and at first they themselves agreed it must me a software problem. After which they said they will escalate it to the level 3 and got back to me after a few days saying it's hardware trouble.
Paid $2200 for this new model and it hasn't even been an year before it failed. Now they want me to pay more for motherboard and keyboard replacement.
Worst Experience. This does not inspire much confidence in Dell/Alienware's products or it's service.
There are key presses that can automatically lock the KB in the Filter Key settings. Open Ease of access to check the filters keys. Use an external KB if necessary. Here's an even quicker fix--
You must still be under warranty. Contact Dell Support directly for help. We are users helping users here in the forum. Oops-- just remembered you are out of the country now which will be a problem. Try adding a usb keyboard to test.
Hope someone else will help. Sorry I'm out of ideas.
No, I did not change any drivers that came with laptop. I don't see any keyboard drivers suggested when I go to check in the dell website.
I have contacted the Dell support once before and they agreed it must be a software issue since it's working in bios and boot menu. They tried what they could and escalated it to level 3 and came back saying it's a hardware and motherboard issue. But they had no answer when i reiterated that it's working perfectly in diagnostics and during windows updates the bios has clearly mentioned that the keyboard is locked.
And I have been relying on an external USB keyboard ever since the laptop keyboard has stopped working, to get the work done. So, there's no issue there.

Quick Tip: If your laptop has voltage / charging issues, try shutting it down, unplugging power from laptop, hold power button down for 30 seconds to do a full reset!
If it works in the BIOS, its not a hardware issue. All people who barely know tech know that. So I don't know why DELL would tell you Hardware.
Also this is meant to fix any issues with all input devices because the BIOS can properly communicate with the OS.

Yep. If it is unusable. I would do a "Factory-reset" of the boot-drive. Then, first thing, update the bios, as well Dell's chipset drivers first. I've done it many times.
