Avamar & tape libraries, backup user profile

Hello All,

I would like to ask you, if is possible backup Avamar to tape libraries?

Or will be it possible to future?
We would need to archive data (vmw images) for longer time to tape libraries ...

Is possible or will be possible to do Avamar backup only for user profile on computer or notebooks

in close future?
Computer or notebook is log on to our domain and user is logon to Active directory.

I need backup only (Win7) C:\Users\%user_name%

Thank you,

Michal K.

There are several tape-out solutions. Which one you use will depend on your exact needs. I would recommend contacting your account team for more information about tape-out but here's a quick breakdown:

    Avamar Tape Out (ATO)

    • Older solution
    • Uses a proxy to export data to tape
    • Data written to tape in rehydrated format

    Avamar Data Transport (ADT)

    • Uses specialized Avamar Virtual Edition nodes called "Transport Nodes"
    • Data written to tape in de-duplicated format

    Avamar Extended Retention

    • Uses a specialized physical node with fibre ports for tape export
    • Exports from Avamar systems and Avamar-integrated DataDomain systems
    • Data written to tape in rehydrated format

Regarding your second question, you can create a dataset for your DT/LT clients that only backs up the C:\Users directory. Details on how to configure datasets can be found in the Administrator's Guide.

Just to provide an update on this since somebody recently hit the "Kudos" button on it:

Avamar Data Transport (ADT) has reached end of life.

Avamar Extended Retention (AER) has reached end of life. I believe Dell is still providing support to AER customers who need to restore long term data from their tapes but will not support or assist with the creation of new tapes.

Avamar Tape Out is now called Avamar Data Migration enabler (ADMe) and is actively supported.

@mradamk works a lot with customers who need tape out capabilities so he likely knows the latest on all this.

    Hello @mradamk

I'd like to connect my IDPA DD4400 through Fiber Channel to my LTO-9 Drive Tape Library. Is there any way that I can do this? perhaps through Networker or Avamar?
