NX4 Storage Pools grayed out

We have a new NX4 and are just getting starting to setup some CIFS shares. However the "Pool" under the "Storage" is grayed out.

Thanks

I assume you mean in Celerra Manager

This is probably because you dont have a Celerra Manager Advanced license - so you cant do manual volume management in the GUI (only CLI)

just use the system default pools

    OK, thanks.

The NX4 is filled with 1GB SATA drives. There are two 1.7TB volumes that are from the factory Disk Pool and are in the SATA default system storage pool. I have 6 more SATA drives that I want to use for CIFS shares. I made another Disk Pool with these 6 x 1GB SATA drives. I noticed that when I add a Virtual Disk (via Navisphere) it is simply added to the same SATA storage pool. This would mean that it would be mixed with the virtual disk from the first disk pool. Is that OK? We have an AX100 and it warned against using the system disks.

If adding other virtual disk from a separate disk pool is correct, what size of Virtual Disk would be most efficient (to use all the free space) ? I thought I read there was a 2TB limit?

Should I have just expanded the original (factory installed) Disk Pool since the File Systems are going to use virtual disk from the other drive pool?

    sorry - I think i misunderstood you

when you said pools I assumed you mean the Celerra Manager GUI - now hearing NX4 I guess you are using the NaviSphere Express Clariion GUI and talk about the pools there.
(Normally we mostly use full NaviSphere and that doesnt use the pool lingo - its saying disks/raidgroup/LUN instead)

    Is that correct ?

What DART release are you using ?
