of my server -in Clariion Cx3 - 80 ( the rest of the servers have same problem). In fact there is no even in Device Manager icon for "Media Changers" as well (including ADIC Scalar 24 Tape library dir). I believe that autochanger could not be seen:
inquire -l
-l flag found: searching all LUNs, which may take over 10 minutes per adapter for some fibre channel adapters. Please be patient.
There is FC Switch, 32- port SW W/16 ACt. I have checked - Scalar Autocharger 24 - read Status- Fibre Status on its LCD. There is Drive1 which indicates that it is not connected, actually No Light. The second Drive2 seem to be connected, as it indecates so (Connected 4 Gb/sec). I do not know how trrobleshoot where exactly the problem is located. I suspect that most probably cause of failure is loose connection somewhere, but how to find?
so you have a server(s) that is connected via fibre channel to Adic Scalar 24 ? This library can use Windows 2003 native media changer driver so i am not sure if inquire will report on that, but you should see it in Device Manager.
That was proble in fact tranceiver in my Fibreswitch. By the way in the following literature I have found the following:
"LUN mode is used with host software applications that recognize the Medium Changer Logical Unit presented by a tape drive with LUN-1 capability. It is the capability of a tape drive to present both a SCSI Streaming device on Logical Unit Number 0 (LUN-0) as well as a SCSI Medium Changer device on LUN-1, that allows an application to communicate with and control both devices by using a single path to the drive. This capability is independent of the physical transport layer, and allows more than one control path to library. Fibre drives can only be set to SEQ mode or LUN mode."
I have been tryiong to understand the following sentence but of no avail.
if i understand that statement correctly it allows you to present medium changer and tape drive via one physical connection. Right now you probably have one physical connection from the library itself and then another connection from the tape drive ? LUN mode allows you to connect just the tape drive to your host and the host will automatically see the tape drive and the medium changer. I think this is beneficial if you do not have a fibre channel switch but you need to present medium changer to two different servers.
