I continually have challenges with Claralert. The implementation has problems sending email from the Claralert server to the EMC Support Center. I have this issue at every customer site yet I can set up alerting via NaviManager to an internal email address and it always works.
Have you opened a case with EMC for this problem? CLARalert - or ConnectEMC as it's now called - is pretty complicated and you may get faster response with a case.
The problem is simply that the test emails do not send. The Claralert install is very straightforward and the most important part is the SMTP server. It always fails to send that email. However, the install will complete and I can manually configure ConnectEMC to alert internally, but I see no successes with the remote notification.
One thought. Does your messaging/network team enforce mail relay lists? If they restrict the ability to relay mail to select IP addresses then that would explain the behaviour. I have seen similar issues and it was a mail relay rights issue.
This can be tested from a workstation using smtp cli commands.
If I understand you correctly, you are able to generate alerts and they are able to be emailed internally, but are not able to email out (externally) from the SMTP Server. If that is the case, it sounds like an outgoing firewall issue at the SMTP server end. However, if alerts are not being forwarded from the array to the SMTP server, there are a few things to check:
1) Make sure "Connect Home" is checked on the ClarAlert template main properties page so that alerts are forwarded from the array to the workstation.
2) Storage Processors (when using distributed monitoring) and the ClarAlert workstation (Centralized Monitoring) use TCP port 25 for outgoing emails.
3) If you include multiple email addresses in your destination address field, separate entries with a comma, not a semicolon.
4) Local email address needs to be any valid internal email address.

Hi,
I'm going to move your question over to the Support Forums, you should get a pretty quick response over there!
