Trespassed VMWare LUN's

All,

Just a quick bit of advice i hope.

We have several VMWare hosts which are allocated many LUN's from our CX320 and CX4120, and these are often trespassed.  Although i'm not really up to speed with VMWare, I have noticed that the paths in VMWare are set to MRU, is this the correct setting? I want to approach the VMWare guys asking them if they believe this to be the correct setting.  It seems any sort of reboot of the ESX hosts causes the LUN's to trespass.

Regards,

Leigh

Please see KnowloedgeBase (or Support Solution) on PowerLink - emc254967 - in this article there is a section for Vmware - some of these talk about the failover mode settings for EMC and VMware. Also article emc99467.

In general, if the failover mode on the array is set to 1, then the failover policy on the LUNs must be MRU. If the failover mode is set to 4 (ALUA), then the failover policy on the LUNs should be set to either FIXED or Round Robin. ESX 3.x only supports failover mode 1 and does not support failover mode 4. ESX 4.x supports either 1 or 4.
