Dell.com - unable to custom configure laptops / PCs
Hello.
Has anyone also noticed that it is no longer possible to configure Dell laptops / workstations on the Dell.com website?
This feature was greatly accepted as you could take out for example a 2.8GHZ processor and replace with a cheaper 2.6GHZ processor (if you wanted to) - or perhaps swap a standard hard drive for an SED hard drive.
Now (as of maybe a few weeks ago) you go to configure the option and it most of the technical specs have been locked so you cannot tune your system? - Unlike the HP site where you can still micro configure your device before purchasing.
Has anyone also noticed this and go any feedback as to why or perhaps if it is simply a temporary measure?
Obviously, I could understand if this was never a feature on the website, but the fact that it already had this as a really good tool seems odd to have that ensure option removed from the website so you're stuck with whatever factory defaults Dell deem right for you?

Hmm. I want to assume your talking about the business side of things? I know the consumer side has been rather small in terms of customizable features for years now. Dell decided that in able to speed things up they would restrict what could be changed. Most of the time you can change things like memory amounts, graphics cards and sometimes hard drives, but even that changes depending on what they are doing with the model of the PC and what they have access to.
