Go to Solutionupgrading HDD, memory, void Dell warranty?
Hello!
I bought a Dell Inspiron 15 at the end of January. I told the sales chat guy exactly what I needed it for and what my budget was. Well, based on his advice, I ended up raising my budget up so I could have the best possible computer for my use.
Now, I usually don't buy a computer on my own, but the person that I usually consult wasn't available, so I figured, hey, the Dell chat guy must know what he is talking about.
The computer he sold me has a *** disc drive (5200 RPM, I believe). I told him I wanted it for recording software. After I bought it (buyer's remorse), several people told me that he should have sold me a SSD drive.
Okay - here is my thing: I can go buy a SSD and install it. But will invalidate my expensive service plan and the warranty I have? Also, tech support plan? And does it matter if it is a Dell hardrive, and can I have someone install it here, or do I have to send the laptop back and have Dell install one of their SSD to keep the warranty and service plan intact?
Thanks.

With Dell you are allowed to replace user serviceable parts in your computer without invalidating the warranty. Examples being HDD, Memory, Graphics Cards, etc. If you ever have a problem and need to send the unit in for repair, you will be required to replace your components with the Dell supplied ones and Dell will only warranty components supplied by them. Also, you are more then welcome to install it yourself. However, if you damage something during the install, it will invalidate your warranty as you caused the damage.
TLDR yes you can install whatever you want.
