Hi, I recently setup backups over fibre channel using Netbackup and ddboost on one media server, DWB004

SCSI Target Access Group

Part of the process involved creating a SCSI Target Access Group. Mine was called "dwb004_test". I associated this group with the two initiators (the HBAs from the server) showing up in Data Domain. I'm now in the position of adding more servers for fibre channel, do I create a SCSI Target Access group for each server in this way - is it a one-to-one relationship, group to server?

Device Set Count

The forumla for this value is:

Let J be the maximum number of simultaneous jobs running using DFC, to the Data Domain System at any given time.

Let C be the maximum number of connections per job: 3 for Data Domain Extended Retention Systems, 1 for other types Data Domain systems

The formula

Maximum simultaneous connections to the DD system, using DFC, from ALL media servers:

S = J * C

DFC Device Count D = maximum(64, 2*(S/128)), round up

All DFC access groups must be configured with “D” devices.

Instructions for this were immensely complex. Is there a rough rule of thumb? I went with 4:

ddboost fc group modify dwb004_test device-set count 4 endpoint 1a

ddboost fc group modify dwb004_test device-set count 4 endpoint 1b

The documentation used 8. I assume that means 4 or 8 logical streams between the server & Data Domain...? Could someone please elaborate? Not sure if 4 is enough, performance on restores over FC is hardly any better than 1gb lan at the moment.
