    Hi

The Dell Optiplex 7020 Tower originally comes with a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 1.2.

However, some configurations or later updates may support or can be upgraded to TPM version 2.0 firmware if the BIOS/UEFI supports it.

The base model TPM hardware is TPM 1.2, and upgrading to TPM 2.0 may require firmware updates or newer BIOS support.

I don't think you have any real path to an upgrade.

Rufus is a possibility, depending on your ultimate goal.

      Kind Regards

    @anne_droid hey Anne :)

    Thanks for your reply.

Would like to specify - i have indeed TPM 1.2 version, but seems like i cant update to newer version.

And i was curious if i could buy a physical TPM 2.0 module, which i could add to my pc motherboard physically... and i could find, was wondering maybe someone knows of a physical module, which compliments my pc and would work... since i lnow i cant update to 2.0 version, seems like...

    Best regards

    Edgars

    Hi

I know of no such thing, nor does the inter-web.

You don't mention the end position that you want to achieve.

      Kind Regards

    Hi,

For the older Dell OptiPlex 7020 with the 0F5C5X motherboard, I would not recommend buying a generic TPM 2.0 module. The issue is not simply having a TPM connector the BIOS and motherboard firmware must support and initialize the TPM 2.0 device. Dell's documentation for newer 7020 systems specifically exposes a TPM 2.0 BIOS option, but that should not be assumed to apply to this older 7020 platform.

If the goal is Windows 11, there is a practical alternative: install Windows 11 using installation media that bypasses the TPM 2.0/Secure Boot/CPU compatibility checks. Microsoft community guidance documents the  Labconfig registry method for bypassing these checks during installation.

So, rather than spending money searching for a TPM 2.0 module, I would:

    1. Update the OptiPlex 7020 to the latest available Dell BIOS.
    2. Enable the existing TPM in BIOS if it is available.
    3. If Windows 11 still reports TPM 2.0 as unsupported, use Windows 11 installation media with the hardware checks bypassed.
    4. Be aware that Windows 11 will then be running on unsupported hardware, so this is not the same as having an officially supported TPM 2.0 configuration.

In short: there doesn't appear to be a worthwhile plug-in TPM 2.0 upgrade for the 0F5C5X board. For Windows 11, bypassing the requirements or replacing the platform with newer hardware is the more realistic solution.
