powerpath policy mode for CLARiiON & Symmetrix

Hi All,

What is the correct policy mode for CX & Symmetrix environment?

The host has CX LUN & Symmetrix LUN at the same time.

Thank you,

Dennis Dai

    Assuming a fully Licensed PowerPath

For Symmetrix devices (VMax and DMX) the PowerPath Policy is 'so' (SymmOpt)

For Clariion devices the PowerPath Policy is 'co' (ClarOpt)

So for blanket setting of policies the following commands can be issued

    powermt set policy=co class=clariion

    powermt set policy=so class=symm

    I hope this helps

    Hello Dennis,

You can set the policy individually using the powermt set policy command, this can be set per powerpath device:

    powermt set policy=li|lb|rr|re [class=symm|clariion|ess|hitachi|hpxp|invista|all] [dev=device|all]

    powermt set policy=si [dev=device|all]

    powermt set policy=so [dev=device|all]

    powermt set policy=co [dev=device|all]

    powermt set policy=ad

Description powermt set policy sets the load-balancing and failover policy for devices configured in PowerPath.

EMC usually recommend the policy SymmOPT (so) for Symmetrix devices and ClarOPT (co) for Clariion devices. But the policy choice is entirely up to the admin and dependent on the system requirements. The policys are listed in knowledgebase article emc248842.

The article is based on the  EMC PowerPath Product Guide Version 5.1P/N 300-000-165, available on Powerlink.  To access this guide, from the home page of Powerlink, select Support > Technical Documentation and Advisories > Software Documentation P - R > PowerPath Family > PowerPath > General Reference > PowerPath Product Guide

    Hope this helps,
