Alienware Control Center worked for me. 

My backlight had stopped working until I created a color profile in ACC. 

Manipulating the lighting and color profile in the Alien Command Center worked for me as well!  Thanks!

ACC came pre installed on my G7 and my keyboard was lighting up just fine until the latest update to Win 10 in March 2021. Now the keyboard won't light up and nothing I do in ACC will fix it.

The problem is with the overclocking application. They broke something in the Mar 18 2021 build 1.3.21.1340, A00. I noticed that not only did it break the keyboard lighting it also caused the cpu to immediately overheat with no cpu or gpu load. The fans would also run like crazy barely keeping up, again with no cpu or gpu load. Needless to say the battery drain was ridiculous. As if that wasn't enough, there were also issues with audio. Its really a mess.  Fortunately I found a fix....

Solution:

step1: go to the dell support page and find the driver called "Alienware OC Controls Application" and click download. Once downloaded open it and at the prompt click UNINSTALL.

step2: from the same support page find the "Alienware Command Center Application" and click download. DO NOT click Uninstall for this app though. Instead, click on REPAIR. Your computer may restart a few times. 

note: if you use the dell support assist app to update bios and drivers just beware that this will likely install the OC controls application again and the issues will likely return. But you can always perform these steps again to fix the issues listed above. 

update on previous post:  the solution was only temporary. i found a fatal corruption in awcc and was causing multiple problems in windows.  i had to uninstall windows and reinstall all drivers and awcc and oc. everything works fine now.

I completely reset the computer... No go.  If you are starting from a basically original installl... does this still apply?
