External monitors--best way to split signals?

Hey everyone,

My technical skills end at the ability to plug and play. I'm using an Inspiron 15 7000 gaming laptop, and I've been able to use an external monitor or display with my HDMI port just fine. However, if I want to have 2 external displays, what's the best way to do this? I'm relatively agnostic as to what shows up on the laptop, but it would be cool if I could do a total of 3 screens instead of mirroring or just having it off. I have 3 USB3.0 ports, one of which has powershare. I also have an HDMI port. My computer has a dedicated and an integrated graphics card.

I feel like there are 3 good ways to do this and one not so good way:

  1. HDMI port out, split the signal to two monitors somehow without having them show the same thing
  2. HDMI and USB ports out to separate displays, with the USB port being converted to HDMI/VGA/DVI/Displayport (who knew there were so many options?!)
  3. USB3.0 for everything (either with multiple USB ports or just splitting one)
  4. Not so good: bluetooth or wireless monitor connection

I feel like HDMI used to be the standard, but now there are all these new types. Also, USB used to be not so great, but my understanding is that the 3.0 is pretty powerful, so it should work, right? I've just seen people complaining about it on online forums, as people tend to do anyways... Basically, I'm wondering if it matters or if one is better--HDMI or USB?

Thank you in advance!
