OptiPlex 5000

Hi there,

I just purchased a brand new Optiplex 5000 and decided to pair it with this beautiful 27 inches S2722DZ. I was hoping the two would work together via USBc but the monitor won't detect the OptiPlex.

The screen works fine whilst using an HDMI or DisplayPort but the USB-C port is a bit awkward: it'll work with an iPad but not with an XPS, which I'm also using.

Am I missing something? I updated everything and asked for support but I'd like to hear from you.

Thanks,

FB

Most portable devices of recent vintage (tablets/phones/notebooks) do support video over USB-C or Thunderbolt.

Most desktops (including this one) do not -- the USB-C port is not video-enabled.

You may be able to use a USB-C displaylink adapter (see below for example) but you can't natively send video output from the desktop system to a monitor over USB-C.

You'll need something like you will find here:

It sounds like there may be an issue with the USB-C port on your Optiplex 5000. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. Make sure that the USB-C port on your Optiplex 5000 is capable of supporting DisplayPort video output. Some USB-C ports only support data transfer and charging, and may not be compatible with video output.

    2. Check that the USB-C cable you are using is compatible with DisplayPort video output. Not all USB-C cables are created equal, and some may not support video output.

    3. Check that the USB-C cable is properly connected to both the Optiplex 5000 and the S2722DZ monitor. Make sure the cable is securely plugged into both devices.

    4. Try using a different USB-C port on the Optiplex 5000 if it has one. If the other port works with the S2722DZ monitor, it could indicate a problem with the original port.

    5. Contact Dell support for further assistance. If none of the above steps work, it's possible that there is a hardware issue with your Optiplex 5000 that is preventing it from working with the S2722DZ monitor via USB-C.
