Thunderbolt and GPU performance
Hello guys,
I have a G15 5520(i7 12700H+3070ti) setup with LG 27GP83B external monitor using type-c to displayport cable.
So, the problem is, when I am running games like Forza Horizon 5, it is fine and I am getting around 100fps with max graphics settings. However, CSGO is getting just 80-120fps which is really surprising since I was getting around 400fps using HDMI cable with the same monitor.
I did some search around and I think the problem is the way Thunderbolt is wired to Intel integrated graphics. My guess is that since the graphics have to go through both dGPU and iGPU, somehow lowered the efficiency and dropped the framerate. So I used Afterburner and checked GPU and CPU usage during gameplay, and it turned out that dGPU is running just around 30% but CPU temperature is maxed all the time.
My question is, is there a way to deal with the detour so I can load more work to dGPU? I've tried 1. turn off hybrid graphics in Bios. 2. Nvidia control panel manual setting for CSGO. 3. disable Intel graphics adapter(just killed the thunderbolt connection)
also, since ForzaHorizon is running just fine, I was thinking if it is also a problem with DirectX. Forza is running under DX12 while CSGO is running under DX9.
Thanks!
