I have a Latitude 7400 and I'm perplexed by a support decision related to Dell Command | Update (DCU). For some reason, the list of supported systems for the v4.4.0 version of the utility does not include the Latitude 7400, but the Latitude 7300 (which is basically the same model with a 13-inch screen vs. the 7400's 14-inch screen) is supported. As such, my Latitude 7400 is stuck on DCU v4.3.0, whereas my other Dell computers run with DCU v4.4.0.
I can only assume this is a packaging error on the part of Dell. If that is the case, can I download and install DCU v4.4.0 on my Latitude 7400, or will this seeming lack of support for this model result in a failure of that version to run? If this is possible, which distribution of DCU v4.4.0 do I use? There's the normal application and a "universal" version and I don't really understand the difference. Presumably, I would want to use the same distribution that I currently have installed with DCU v4.3.0 on my Latitude 7400, but I'm not sure how to tell the difference (if that's even possible).
Speculation: Perhaps Dell used different hardware and drivers in machines with 14 inch monitors than with 13 inch monitors. Perhaps research that end via Device Manager of each machine or the package list (@ Dell) for each PC.
I have some Latitude 6420s that Dell says are not supported by Windows 10. All have 8GB RAM, Windows 10 Pro-64B with no unusual problems. Worst case, image the PC and then upgrade it.
AL_in_GA: It's hard for me to see how the hardware in a Lat. 7300 and Lat. 7400 is all that different, since they use the same BIOS file.
They are basically the same series, (compare 7300/7400 vs. 7310/7410 vs. 7320/7420, etc.), so I really don't see why the 7400 is singled out in this respect. (Among those six specific Latitude models cited, only the 7400 is missing from the list of systems supported by v4.4.0 of DCU.)
I reached out to Dell (ProSupport Plus) tech. support last night, and the rep. to whom I was talking seemed to think the omission of the Latitude 7400 from the compatibility matrix for v4.4 of the application was accidental. They are looking into it.
