Suse 9.0 install problem with Dell Latitude D800 - Broadcom 570x NIC
Hello,
I am attempting to install Suse 9.0 on a Dell Latitude D800 which has a
Broadcom 570x network card. The laptop boots the 21MB boot disk without any
problems but if I try and load the NIC driver bcm5700 I am prompted for
parameters. I don't specify anything but press enter and it fails saying it
cannot load the driver. I have even downloaded the latest drivers from
Broadcom in rpm and tar.gz format but I think I can only use this after an
initial install? I am trying to perform a network install over FTP.
Any help would be appreciated.

Did you ever get the Broadcomm issue resolved? I am attempting to install SUSE 9.0 right now on my D800 and it keeps asking me for the parameters for the broadcomm 570x and I have no idea what they should be.

please let me know what you find out.
I'm installing this via a MS Virtual PC session. I am also using Daemon tools to "simulate" the CD ROM drive and using the SUSE boot.iso to boot the Virtual PC session (meaning, not using an actual burned CD to do the booting).
Nothing like making this as difficult or as unusual as possible.

I haven't sorted this problem out yet. In fact I have also tried to install Fedora and Redhat9 over VMWare but the iso disks fail when I create a CD out of them using linux mediacheck. I have checked the md5sum and even downloaded the software from various sites and even a torrent download. I have tried to copy the iso using Roxio CD Creator and Nero.rpforum999

The strange thing is that the first CD copied fine and I have read a few things about people having the same problems. I have asked a friend to burn the iso's for me and will let you know what happens. Apart from this I will be attempting an FTP install. I have to say, I find all of this quite annoying especially since I've never had this problem in the past with older machines. I will let you know what I find out.

Please let me know how this works. Everything looks fine and the virtual session boots from the iso image fine and I can work through the install, I just can't get any network drivers to load so I am sort of stuck.
I found updated drivers on the broadcomm site, but haven't learned yet how to make that work at all. I figured I wouldn't need to do this since the SUSE install has the broadcomm adaptor listed, it just doesn' seem to want to load at all.
I guess I just have to continue to play with it.
