External Harddrive Alienware m14 problem

I am having some issues with my recently bought alienware m14.
When I connect my WD element harddrive to the computer it recognizes the connection but it never opens up nor does it show up in "my computer". But I can Eject it.Sometimes it doesn't even recognize the connection. This issue does not happen on my lenovo laptop ever and I think that the laptop's USB ports may be underpowered even when plugged in.

    Hi KGDThomas,

Try uninstalling USB Root Hubs from the computer. While uninstalling, please ensure that all USB devices are disconnected.

    • Click on Start.
    • Right click on Computer -> click on Properties.
    • Click on Device Manager.
    • Expand ‘Universal Serial Bus controllers’.
    • From the list, look for ‘USB Root Hub’.
    • Right click, choose ‘Uninstall’, choose ‘Ok’.
    • Uninstall all ‘USB Root Hub’ listed.
    • Wait for all the drivers to get uninstalled.
    • Restarted the computer.
    • Restarting the computer will install ‘USB Root Hub’s automatically on the computer.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi KGDThomas,

Try updating the chipset drivers. Click on the link http://dell.to/13hdFWa -> type the service tag of the computer -> expand Chipset.
