Despite the Pcie-2, the X58 and the SATA 2, I do not want to change anything except my graphics card. My old I7 930 is still fast (especially with windows 10) and a video upgrade is very valuable! An SSD is highly recommended, as the bios update in A9 minimum! And it is better to have the power supply 875 w, even if the 525 W should also work with the latest cards.

In the current state, the GTX 1070 video cards would be compatible with the Aurora R1 (Warning this is not official!), But I have not tested. For example, an Emeritus member of this forum has an Aurora R1 with a GTX MSI 1070 8GB X, it is called Tesla1856 and will be able to inform us, for sure ... For the GTX 1060 cards, I do not know, but even A 3 GB model would be enough on our old horses ... But I have not seen Aurora r1 with GTX 1060 on the forums, no, nothing.

After much hesitation, I chose a GTX 1060 6 Gb Nvidia Founders Edition (215 euro on Ebay, used). This allows an optimal cooling of the video card (62 ° C after 2 hours on Far Cry 4 in Ultra, 65 to 70 FPS in resolution 1920X1200). The card is silent, much less noisy than my old AMD HD 5870 !

For installation, I followed the instructions of Nvidia: I simply removed my old AMD, installed the GTX, started the PC and then installed the GeForce Experience that takes care of everything. It went well ! However, before installation, the Intel Chipset and BIOS must be upgraded to 2013 (see Dell Support)

I think a GTX 1060 is largely enough for an old Aurora R1 that is in PCI Express 2 only.

GTX-1060 is nice, and pretty close to 1070.

Hey, in Nvidia Control Panel, be sure PhysX is set to Auto. Should be using the GeForce GTX-10x0 card. Or maybe, just lock it on the Nvidia card. I've seen machines with it set to CPU before and that is pretty much wrong.
 
Gotta keep these Aurora-R1's gaming if they still work.
