4550 with Win 2000K not finding the USB controller

There seems to be this persistent yellow exclamation mark when you install win2000 on a 4550 that comes with XP (i dislike XP home)

where do you find this driver? or get rid of this yellow exclamation mark on hardware devices??

Did you install the Windows 2K chipset drivers for your motherboard?

It is not so odd when you consider that Dell never desinged these series to run run Windows 2000.  Did you go to the Windows update site to see if you can find the patch that installs USB 2.0 drivers under windwos 2000.

i just can't win it would seem. i just installed xp, did the chipset off dell.com as well as other patches/drivers

and now i still can't find the "generic ieee 1284.4 printing support" AND "universal serial USB controller" in other devices...this USB thing seems universal in both XP AND 2K...

    am i missing something?

Windows XP Service Pack 1 adds support for USB 2.0.  Did you install SP -1?  I don't know about the "ieee 1284.4 printing support".
