I just got a new XPS 8300 less than 2 weeks ago. Last Friday, I noticed that when I clicked on "Shut Down" it shuts down but immediately restarts. Every time. It will hibernate ok, but the only way to actually shut it down is to press and hold the start button. I thought I may have done something to cause this (as I've never had a problem with a Dell before), like maybe the installation of an "incapatible" program, so I re-installed Windows 7. I thought I'd check for the problem after every step I took. Didn't have to wait long. After Windows 7 installed, the next steps were to install the chipset and graphics drivers. Instead of "restarting" I clicked "shut down" and it restarted after about 3 sec.- same as before. I've checked all the obvious solutions. I've done lots of troubleshooting and repairs to computers before, but... I'm stumped.
