Answer the question

This is for all in general. How is it that when a question is posted, no one seems to be able to give a straight answer? A question was posted asking if reverting back to factory settings would correct a particular situation. Instead of giving first a yes or no, we have to go into as diatribe of other factors, never answering the question directly. I myself have experienced such a phenomenun. It was very exasperating to read through all the retoric and still not be any further ahead than when the question first occurred.

The fact that someone took the time to read and provide assistance is very gratifying, but please, answer the question first before going off on a tangent.

That's fine as far as that goes, but will it or will it not. Then give me an opinion of what "your" ( not you specifically) reading between the lines entails. The post in question occurred a couple of posts below mine. Again, I really appreciate those who take time out of their day to help those of us that aren't as computer literate. Maybe this is a discussion we should have away from the forum, where there is better opportunity to speak at length.

    Hi Jaxom5,

I have no idea exactly which thread you're referring to. However, there are many cases, perhaps the majority of first time posts, where either the question is unclear or insufficient detail is provided. In such cases, a straight answer cannot be provided.

The other factor is that many experienced forum members can read between the lines to determine that the exact question asked is not what needs to be answered.

We get lots of questions about hardware upgrades to old systems (CPU, RAM, etc.). As an experienced user, I will try to make a recommendation that has a reasonable cost/benefit ratio, which may or may not correspond to the users expectations.

If it's with regards to the Trojan thread, I suggested what had worked in a similar case, where an acquaintance's laptop was infested with malware that we eliminated using Symantec Antivirus.

osprey4 has 34,571 post on our Forum. I think he knows how to answer a question and should not be prosecuted by new forum users.

Nor was he or anyone in particular. I very much appreciate all and any answers that are posted, some seem to wander around a bit before getting close to the question. I apologize to any and all who may have taken any offense to my post. As I stated though, I have been the recipient of a wandering answer before. It gets frustrating to seek help and then not be able to decipher the answer.
