Black screen and graphics driver has recovered message

Hi all,

Ive had my XPS 8500 desktop PC for about three weeks. Ive had  a few times when the screen has gone black for a few seconds and then come straight back on with the graphics driver has recovered message. Today I reinstalled everything and Ive downloaded the ATI Radeon HD 7570 from the Dell support site a couple of times. On further investigation when I look in the Event log viewer there are hundreds of ATIeRecord  error messages with the error 16388 attached in the Application Log...and that's just since this morning. There are  between three and five of these error messages appearing in nearly every single minute today. I don't know what else to do. Can anybody help?

I darednt try to uninstall and then reinstall the drivers because I don't know what will happen as I have the i5 P3350P CPU so I suspect if I uninstall I will have no display at all as I don't think this system has any backup on board VGA graphics.

Thanks, in advance,

Rick

Yes, you can use the retail AMD drivers. Here's the article I was referring to. Chris explains how to uninstall one driver and install another one. Fairly straightforward.

    Hi Rick,

Go to the FAQ on the video forum front page and locate the article to clean out the ATI drivers. Windows will employ the default graphics driver. Then go to the AMD site and get their current drivers.
