boot up problems
I have not been able to get my Dim. 4400 to bootup or turn on at all lately. The fans don't run and the light that comes on in the front is amber. I replaced the Motherboard twice with a dell 4400 motherboard but no go. A computer tech in my town says it's the processor so he put in a processor but it wasn't from dell. Now the a & b lights come on in the back but it still won't power up. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks

rydodsTry testing the power supply by unplugging the 20 pin connector from the motherboard and jumping the Green wire to one of the Black wires, if power supply and/or case/processor fans run, then you know it's good.
If the above checks out, reconnect the power supply, then remove all the PCI cards, the video card and memory, disconnect the IDE/SATA and FD cables, check that the front panel cable is connected to motherboard, with nothing else connected to the case, except the power cable, then power the system on. If you do not get any beep codes or no LEDs in the back, then it would appear that motherboard has died.Bev.

Ok, just need a little more information. There are four diagnostic lights on the back of your system labeled A,B,C and (not surprisingly) D. What color are they when you try to boot your system?
By the way, there is no such thing as a "Dell processor". As long as this local guy put in a compatible processor, you should be fine. Ans if he put in the wrong one, your system won't work at all.
