Could My PC be overheating?
I have had my Dimension E310 for a week now, and really like it! However, when I walked in to use it this morning, I noticed that the PC has rebooted itself sometime during the night. I used it last night when I got home from work (I was importing music) I know that it had rebooted because my McAfee had popped up and some other stuff that automatically starts up popped also. I didn't see any type of error message, and my virus stuff seems to be up to date, and the Pc is running fine.....no strange things happening. I did remove some of the programs last night to free up some space on my HD.....Could that have done it? Could my PC have been overheated? I read somewhere where the P4 processors have this shut off thing that when they get overheadted that they will reboot. Is this true?
Also, is it good to leave a PC on all the time, or should it be turned off if it will not be used for a long period of time? I work in a computer department, and the PC that I work on is onall the time, and I have never known for it to reboot or anything. Now, my manager turns hers off every night before she leaves. Where I work there is always soeme there 24/7, so that PC stays on all the time. Sometimes if it starts doing strange things, it needs to be rebooted but after that it starts working fine. I hope that the fan is not going out already :( I have noticed that there is a lot of heat coming from my monitor. Is this normal? My Old PC, which was not a Dell, would seem to reboot about every 2 to 3 days, it finally died, but I think he had something to do with a bad memory stick that I was sold. So, I guess I'm just alittle paranoid with a new PC......I'm still paying for it :) Any suggestions or advice?
Thanks in advance!!

- Sorry about the large font size. I have a sight impairment, and sometimes it is easier for me to see the larger fonts. Maybe it was just the power. I didn't notice any of the clocks messed up thismorning but maybe the failure was just for a second. I did touch the CPU and I noticed that it was kind of warn. After I restarted it, it seemed fine. I think I may start turning it off if I am going to be away from home for more than a few hours. When I work the night shift, I work 8 hours and there is no one else that uses it, so I guess I could save alittle electricity :) this is the first time that it has done this........
- Run BIOS setup (press F2 before XP starts to load) and look for power option settings. There should be a choice like "reboot after power outage". Turn that one off. If your electric company blinks the power, even for a second, in middle of the night, and that option is set in BIOS, the PC woould reboot itself. Set it to "Do nothing" after power is restored.
Also, open XP Event Viewer (start>programs>administrative tools>event viewer. Click System at left side and look for error or warning entries during the night when you think it rebooted. That may tell you something about the cause, especially if it was due to overheating.
