Dell Optiplex gx620
I have a Dell Optiflex GX620 that I'm very fond of. I got into problem caused by? that says, cannot locate XPcom . Tried many suggestions and finally decided to reinstall XP Pro which I Have the Dell Re-install CD and Product Key. Now all I get on the monitor is this, "Microsoft requires conformation to continue, Yes or No. I have attempted several times and the screen stays the normal background blue and that's it. No change, no anything and the CD (light) closes out.
Everything was good until I got a notice that "ANIW2CS2" was a virus or some such. I have two Anti Virus programs and neither one could clear it nor could my control panel delete it.
Whew... So where does this leave me? Ideas?
I have a laptop w/win7 but still prefer XP. And it costs more to buy win 7 than it does win 8.1. Even then I do not know if Either will install, But 7 would be much preferable than 8 or 8.1.
I cannot even find a way to FORMAT the HD.
One more update..Dell is a pain!
Now it asks when I turn it on is: What is the system password? This computer is 10 years old, with XP, how should I know or remember what it is? The only passwords I know are my email accounts. And even then they change.You can clear the password by removing a jumper, as detailed in the manual.
If I had had a manual , I probably would not have asked the question!
But thank you any way. The Dell site is VERY difficult to use. I was looking for a location of the pswd pins.
I finally found them with a flashlight, magnifying glass and luck. You need a layout of the MOBO.

Continued running of Windows XP is a bad idea as its no longer supported or updated by Microsoft. From your thread its hard to determine whether or not you have a BIOS password set or a user password or Malware. It sounds like Malware and these problems will continue with continued Windows XP usage.
Unfortunately Windows 8.1 is cheaper than Windows 7 but a used Dell OptiPlex 760 with a Windows 7 OEM license is comparable in price to a Windows 8.1 license. The model is very similar to the GX620 but has a multitude of improvements.
One thing you can also try is a clean installation of the Windows 10 Technical preview which is the newest version of Windows. Windows 10 is designed to fix the issues of Windows 8 making it closer to Windows 7.
The Dell OptiPlex GX620 is on the border of Windows 8.1/10 64 Bit system requirements so install the 32 Bit version. See here for details on clean installation:

UPDATE.......
I am blessed with a hearing problem, therefore having two computers simplifies things for me, as does a captioned phone, if I make the call out. It's complicated for everyone at best. Email is my primary source for Q&A.
The desktop Dell-gx620 w/win xp-pro has a problem, I cannot boot up to access the internet(Firefox/Google). How it came to that is a good ?.
I can access w/f2 and f12.but the only thing that is normal is the Windows/ XPPro logo is all that is seen. I get a request that I must confirm Windows with a password to use which I have NEVER inserted as I can remember. I am the ONLY user, why do I need a password? XP-pro is no longer assisted by MS anyway.
My only remaining access is a Compaq notebook CQ-401US with Win 7 and it is fine. But how do I fix my GX620? Inserting the Dell restore cd again does nothing! I can't even restore to an earlier time.
