When I go to the product update section of this forum it ask for my service tag # which I then enter !  After it scans my PC Iam getting a criticial update Dell #R114566, a chipset update thats marked with a red "criticial" ,I believe it installs chipset A13 my current chipset (BIOS) is A05 ! Iam a little or more then a little nervious about this update ,I tried to install it by double clicking on the setup.exe file and it starts installation ,yet it never installs the update. Upon further  reading of the readme file in the .inf section I become completly confused , Iam not what I consider a newbie to PC's however neither am I a PC Tech ! One thing I know is that a BIOS update gone wrong can bring your system to its knees ?  Becasue I recieved a STOP error yeaterday and my display adapter was named in it "ati3duag.dll" ,I thought perhaps there was a display driver update needed ?  Anyone with any info on my situation please ad whatever you can to this post .  I come from the if it aint broke dont fix it line of thinking and I have re-installed the .dll file to the system32 folder ?  Otherwise my PC is running very well and I just order a 2 G.B. RAM kit giving me a total of 3 G.B. of RAM from the 2 G.B.'s I now have , I added a TV Tuner card some time ago and when I use the PC ,Iam usally on the internet with TV in a small box on my desktop.  I also have a seperate LCD display running a small 3"x1.5" dispaly that used RSS feeds to give me info on numerous subjects ,its called a Pertelian X2040. Well again thanks to all and have a nice day !

You are confusing the Chipset to the Bios which are two totally seperate things.

The chipset is for the contoller on the motherboard which interfaces with all your hardware.

This is what the chipset driver is reported to fix

    Fixes

    1. It fixes issue with USB keyboard/mouse hang until reboot while installing.
    2. It fixes yellow bang in USB controller in Device Manager on a system with USB keyboard/mouse while installing.
    3. It fixes a bug where a 3rd party SMBus driver was being overwritten.
    4. It fixes Installshield issue with silent mode.
    5. It fixes issue in PCIUtility.sys during install on 64-bit OS.
    6. It fixes untranslated language strings.

This seems pretty significant to me and i would seriously consider running this update.

Again the chipset and the Bios are two different things

THank you for your reply Dave ! I have tried to install tthis update and it starts the install however it never confirms that its installed ? I still have the file in the DELL/DRIVERS folder on my hard drive so I will try again to install this update .If I still do not recieve a "download complete" or some other type of message confirming the download has installed properly then I will try and install it again or perhaps it was a bad download of the files ,I can always download the update again and try a fresh install ?
