Drivers

First of I am new to these forums.  I am happy to find them, having a few issues and am becoming quite frustrated. Not extremely tech savvy, so I will have lots of questions.

I have a Dell Dimension E520.  its about 2 yrs old.

I just recently switched from Netzero dsl, vonage phone service and DTV to Timewarner cable/internet/phone.

So there were some uninstalls going on.  That night I got the blue screen of death and the error msg said a video driver was faulty...I didnt write the specific information down.  I turned my system off and back on everything seemed fine.  But when going online to message boards I frequent, one professional (an association I belong to) and the other a local newspaper message board.  The newspaper msg board just sits and spins, says "loading commenting interface" but it never loads.

With the professional association msg board i belong to that loads but when I am replying to a msg it spins but doesnt automatically laod the reply I just made liek it used to do.  When I try to edit a post I made this wont open at all, jsut the little circle spinning.

Went to microsoft to try and download  a new driver... but Like I said I dont know the name of the driver I need...

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.  Microsoft wants 59.99 to talk to me, live chat said contact Dell, Dell Charges too...

I know I can do  a system restore but I would need to get an external hard drive to download all the info I have input since i the date I enabled that almost 2 yrs ago.  thats a lot as I run a business from my home.  I have lost of files saved...

I hope someone can help me. :emotion-9:

for starters, it's best NOT to get drivers from Microsoft.  Get them from Dell. Believe it or not, Dell drivers are almost always tested better and more compatible. That being said, you normally don't need a new driver because of a BSOD, but it is possible a driver file was corrupted. You need to at least go into Display Properties from Control Panel or "Right-Click" your DESKTOP and click "PROPERTIES" and select, SETTINGS and see what video card you are running. It should show an Intel, nVidia, or ATI and show a model too.  With that info, we can at least point you towards the newest driver.

As for the webpages not loading, either your new modem/router has a bum setting, maybe a DNS problem etc.   I could go into some things to check but i dont know your IP's particular settings, so to be honest it may be best to call your ISP and tell them you have been trouble accessing sites since they hooked you up.  If its their router, they should be able to verify the settings on it, and the rest of your computer.

Thank you so much for the reply.  Its like pulling hair trying to get help, so I appreciate your input, a lot!

I had TWC come out and do some type of adjust ment, they said they knew "just what the problem is" . The night before I did a system reset too. So I dont know what worked my reset or their adjust ment, problem not fully resolved as of today, so I will be calling them again, soon.

As for the driver, thank you for pointing me to where I find that info.  What it says is :

Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator Driver Report

    Report Date:        02/19/2009
    Report Time[hr:mm:ss]:    19:12:52
    Driver Version:        6.14.10.4642
Operating System:        Windows XP* Home Edition, Service Pack 3 (5.1.2600)

    Intel(R) G965 Espress Chispet Family

Now I do a search here for that driver?  I wish there was a test I could do on this driver... or is there?  i dont want to download a new driver if this isnt the problem, ya know?

Thanks for the step by step instructions, I had no problem finding this info.  :emotion-2:
