Fatal exceptions

When I reboot I go through a series of Fatal Exceptions on the blue screen. I press any key to continue ahead and this process goes on to 5 passes until I get a complete desktop.

Here's a few few of the warnings I get:

OD at 0028:ccd18d94
OE at 0028:cdf4cd9f
O6 at 0025:cdf09da2
OO at 0028:cd83bd99
O5 at 0028:ce972d91

There never are duplications. The only thing they share in common is the number 0028.

This has been going on for a little over a month.

The DVD player has stopped working. When I click on the icon the system shuts down and I have to go through the fatal exceptions all over again.

I use a DSL internet connect and I think Norton AntiVirus 2000 has cleansweeped me to these failures.

I went to the support website but got very intimidated when trying to find answers for questions that have not arisen.

I have a 1GHz with RDRAM and this same problem is happening to me. If you unplug the DVD drive and be "gentle" with the computer it will work but beware of restarting it more than twice every time you use it. Eventually it won't let you reboot because of "Windows Protection Error," When this happens unplug the computer and leave it for about 30 minutes to an hour and it will magicly work!

what do you mean when you say "unplug" the DVD drive. You also refer to unpluging the PC. You mean from the outlet? Simple words become very tricky in the computer world.

    Thank you.

On the back of the DVD Drive there is a power cord, an audio cord (connecting to sound card), and then the IDE Cable. Simply unplug the IDE cable from the back of the drive. Also, to help me help you please let me know the specifications of your computer. I will help you get Dell to send parts. I am currently working with one of the Tech Support Representatives to pinpoint where this problem is coming from. Today I received replacement RDRAM and are waiting to see if it fixes the problem.

I would love to explain more in depth but must go now to try and pin point this problem more precisely. Please reply back at zpanacek@bellsouth.net
