Fix for Internal error help
Hello:
I have Dell Dimension 4600 and Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2. Lately when I start my computer and after windows loads and the desktop appears an error message pops up and says, Internal Error, error code: 0001.00000002
I click the ok and it goes away and I continue on. I just don't know why it is happening and would like to know how to fix it. I searched Microsoft and could not find a solution for my particular error message. If anyone can help me with this, I sure would appreciate it.
Thanks:
Bonnie :smileywink:

Hi:
The Internal Error gives no other information at all. I also had, when I shut down my computer a couple of programs pop up, one: MMDIAG.exe failed to open because windows is shutting down. Shell Con hidden and Lexmark were two others. My Word Perfect 11 would not work. I finally did a System Restore Point and did a Word Perfect Repair. I also downloaded Dell's new Dell Support program that monitors your computer. So, now all I get is the Internal Error Code when starting windows. But like I said, it doesn't seem to keep me from doing anything. I hope all this makes some kind of sense, it sure doesn't to me...lol.
Thanks:
Bonnie

bpaulk4398,
It appears that the mmdiag.exe is a musicmatch file. You may also be infected with a virus or spyware. Click the link below for information.

I did a google search for the file mmdiag.exe and these are the hits I received.

Thank you very much. I have read the links you sent but still want to read more. Thought I would go to Consumer Reports and see what they think is the best utility I should get. All I have is Spybot and Ad-Aware. Ad-Aware seems to find more than Spybot. Thank you for your help.

Hello:
I still haven't resolved my Internal Error message problem. Right before the error screen pops up, the Setup screen comes on as says please wait while setup loads and the error screen is in front so when I click ok both screens go away. I'm wondering if this error has anything to do with memory?
Thanks:
Bonnie

bpaulk4398,
Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
Does the error message have any other information other than what you posted? Have you added any hardware or software to the system prior to getting this message?
