Grafic Card Dell E521

I wanted to upgrade my Dell E521 grafic card, but i am wurried it will not work, this is the problem, i noticed that my monitor always has been plugged in to the onboard slot and never in the card that plugged in the PCI express slot, if i put the monitor in the other slot i have a black screen. I looked in the bios where i see that the PCI express slot is empty but there is a card in it.  If i put an other grafic card in it i see the fan on the card running but still the PCI slot is empty when looking in the bios. The onboard grafic card has to turn off when detecting an other card but this is not working. At Dell the sad to flip the little batery for 10 seconds but this did not work. I already bought a card (gefore 9600 GT) and i know i have to upgrade my PSU for it to make it work, but before i gonna spend more money i want to solve this problem.

It sound like the PCIe slot is not working which would mean you would need a new motherboard. If you have plugged two different cards in and you see now video that is what is leading me. You should at least see the Dell Splash screen at boot up are you seeing that?

Have you tried to boot into Safemode to see if you have video there. Even with installing the card drivers widows will load generic vga drivers to allow basic video display. If it will not work even in safe mode with both of the cards then there is an issue with the PCIe slot.

Make sure that you are fully inserting the cards into the slot. some of them go in a bit firm.

Make sure your Primary video setting in the bios is set to AUTO

    Hello

Thank you for your answer, i tried everything you sad but nothing works, i am afraid i will need a new motherbord, but that and a new PSU and a new grafic card i can better buy a new PC.

The PCI slot never worked i gues, when i look in the bios i cant switch the settings, the only setting is AUTO, thats strange isn't it.

    Frienly regards
