High pitch when computer is off

I have a Precision Workstation 330.

When the computer is off, I hear a high pitch sound. I know it is coming from the computer because when I unplug it the sound goes away. It doesn't make this sound when it is on.

Thanks for any help.

You might get a faster response posting this in one of the Precision Workstation conferences - kind of an apples and oranges thing, between them and Dimensions.

    Good luck.

I have a Dimension 8100 and having the same issue. Opened the box up and determined that it is coming from the power supply. Attempting to get a hold of someone from Dell to get it replaced.

A leaking capacitor. New/repalcement power supply may be beter, may not be better. It's kind of a personal interpretation of what is loud/annoying.

Boom! I am having the exact problem as you are. I have already had someone out to my home and have already changed out two power supplys. After the second one didn't solve the problem I spoke with someone at Dell and was told to be patient as they researched the problem. Well, I waited about four days, called and left voice mails and didn't hear any response so today I called Dell again and was told that the power supply is the problem but they just didn't send out the right one to put in my computer. I am waiting on the tech. to call me back to schedule a time for the third go around with the power supply. This has been a total pain in the (you know) and makes me think I should have bought a Gateway.

I am hoping that this will get straightened out and I can use my CPU properly.....did I mention I have only had it fo about a month. I think Dell owes me something for my trouble....They need to regain my loyality.

It's the power supply!!!!!! New one in noise gone. If you're having problems arranging for a tech to come out, I would suggest having them ship you a PS and have a phone tech walk you through it. It's really an extremely simple process - Dimension

    Unplug power
Push in button on front lower left
    Raise side cover
    Remove cover
Push in clip for PS holder on lower left side of PS
Raise PS all the way up
Unplug connector to Floppy, CD, HD
    Unplug two connectors to motherboard
Unscrew single screw from upper back of PS
Push PS holder clip up (front top of PS)
    Slide PS out

New one in - Reverse of top
