hp c7180 printer problem
I have a Dell 8400 running win XP. I bought this AIO printer and loaded it up wirlessly. It worked fine when printing and copying but when I went to scan it gave this message. The scan cannot be performed because another program or computer is using the networked device. Try again later. I have spoken to HP 5 times and reinstalled the software 5 times. Hooked it up through linksys router as well. Still same error at times. THere aare times like right aftere the reinstall that it will scan fine and then will get the error on the 3rd scan try. I have uninstalled my norton firewall and antivirus to see if that was blocking the connection but still got the error. Dont know if another program is doing it or not. The hardware seems fine. Anyone with any ideas. Have no virus or spyware since i ran program to check them. Is there a way to share this printer without turning on my desktop thru USB since it can be hooked up that way. As of now hooked to desktop .

That printer forum, referenced, is for Dell branded ink jet support. Not the old general External peripherals forum section that was deleted.However, if you are running a wireless connection it may be the scanner will not work in a wireless environment. You should be contacting HP about this as it's most likely an HP issue, not a Dell PC issue.

That's correct. Scanners must be physically connected to the computer to scan. Unlike printing, scanning is more like connecting a camera. You have to plug it in to a usb port.147

If that were the case why would HP not say that. THis is an all in one machine that can also copy so it does scan the image before it copies it and it is hooked up to a router not by USB. I think that may be with just a scanner alone but not one of these

I'm going to refer you to the printers forum but before you post over there. I have to admit I am not following your description of how the printer is connected. You say it's connected to your 8400 via USB, but if that's the case, why does Windows see it as a networked device, then you also mention "loading it up wirelessly". Please try the printers forum but it would really be helpful if you could clarify your set up.
