You can try doing a repair or reinstall of Windows using the installation disk that should have come with your system. Just make sure you don't do a new installation or it will format your hard drive and you will lose everything. Hopfully this is just a windows error, if this is the case a reinstall should fix it. But the second that I read 'Facebook progam' the word virus came to my mind. Be very wary of installing programs for those types of site, especially myspace.

I forgot to ask what windows you are using. Vista or XP? If it's XP the reinstall should be simple, if it's Vista it might be alot more complex. I don't know, I use and will stay with XP for a while yet, so I don't know what you have to do to reinstall Vista.

I did finally manage to get it working again by using the windows CD and then manually telling the machine to do a chkdsk.

 

Once it finished doing it the computer booted up fine although has blue screened twice since. I am currently running XP home edition that came on the XPS but thinking that Pro might help it run a bit smoother. Also I currently have a raid configuration set up so both my hard drives are seen as 1 but i think there might be an issue with the raid config which is causing it problems so want to just go for 2 seperate drives and then partition part of 1 of the drives with OS and the software on.

 

Does anyone else on here have a better setup opinion for an XPS or has had similar blue screen issues that changed something to stop it happening

I've never used XP Home so I'm not sure what the differences are, you can pick up a OEM copy of XP Pro pretty cheap ($140 on Newegg.com). As far as the hard drive set up I would recommend ditching the raid and using the smallest hard drive for the OS and the bigger one for all your files and games. This type of setup will also help if you ever have this problem again, because you can simply format the OS hard drive and it won't effect your other hard drive at all, so you won't loose anything. You can even move your My Documents folder to the bigger hard drive too.
