LAN Connection Problem
I have a Dimension 4600 with XP Home. Every time I connect the ethernet LAN cable, a Blue Screen appears which says the following:
Windows has shut down......
It suggests troubleshooting items such as BIOS, drivers, etc......
It states that a physical memory dump took place...
The computer works just fine if the ethernet cable is not connected....all programs and files are accessible. As soon as the ethernet LAN is connected, the blue screen appears and I am forced to re-boot.
I have tried everything with the netork card drivers....update, re-download, re-install......that did not work. I installed a new network card and drivers....that did not work. I changed cables and tried to troubleshoot modem compatibility, but I have three other computers working just fine on the network and internet without any problems.
I have exhausted Dell tech support and they are out of suggestions. Would really appreciate any ideas if someone out there has any.
Thank you,
Brian

- It sounds as if you have a software issue as you said that you have put in another network card.To avoid a reinstall I would first try to click start then RUN then type in sfc /scannowIt should prompt you for your windows disk. This is going to check your system files to ensure they are in good condition.
- The blue screen says that Windows has shut down. I offers some troubleshooting tips as far as updating BIOS and checking drivers. It some Error Codes which I have tried to look up through Microsoft Support. And towards the end is says that it dumped physical memory.I just tried connecting an ethernet cable to the computer with nothing connected on the other end, and everything worked fine.....no blue screen.
