M70 Screen Flickers while scrolling
Hi forum,
I recently bought an M70. I experience some occasional flickering while scrolling windows. The same flickering occured while using 3d applications as well as video games (GTA san andreas). Looks like slow refresh rate effect. very tiring for the eyes. The strange thing is that this does not happen always.
has anyone experienced similar behavior?
thanks

- Hi bogdan,
thanks for the reply
What do you mean by display blanking? it is not exactly a flicker. the effect i get is similar to the one that occurs when you run windows without the appropriate driver but the one (vga) that comes as a default with windows. however i have updated my video driver to the latest release that dell provides. i cannot believe that this graphics card cannot cope with wuxga. my graphics card is the latest opengl nvidia 256 mb ram. in an inspiron 8600 with the 128 nvidia (no opengl), the same resolution (wuxga) runs with no similar problems.
also i ve noticed that on white screens some black elements leave a sort of a ghost light gray line on their left. it is very translucent, by this is weird as well.
any similar behavior?
best - I suppose I need to see what you mean to give you a more definite answer.
The M70 video card can easily handle the WUXGA display, assuming everything works correctly.
The M70 that I am using is actually my work laptop and it came with the company's standard load (highly customized). The display would start blanking when running more intensive applications (CAD). This felt like someone was inserting a subliminal message for a brief fraction of a second, and it would do it randomly.
The first thing I would do is to get a good driver and install it.
I am currently using version 81.98 with no problems whatsoever on my M60 and the M70.
Download the driver from here:
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=8382
Download the driver and the modified .INF file. Run the driver executable and it will extract the driver files in a folder. Copy the modidifed .INF file into that folder.
Next, uninstall the existing driver and reboot.
After the reboot, go to the above mentioned folder and run the setup.exe and follow the instructions...
This should install the new driver. Restart again and then set the options and you like.
Good luck.
Bogdan - Hi Bogdan,
thanks for the reply. from your description this is very similar to what happens. I will follow your suggestions and install the new driver. From other threads users reccomended to go back to the A00 driver that dell released since - according to user comments - was far more stable, eliminating strange behavior of the graphics. Also they mentioned that the A00, was certified by alias and adobe, while the new one is not yet.
I ll try both ways (your suggestions as well as the A00) and if either eliminates the problem I will post here again.
many thanks
vas - Dell WHQL driver version 84.30 (includes the new style NVidia Control Panel) for the M70/Quadro FXGo1400 available here -Enjoy :smileyhappy:
- hi bodgan and all,
similar flicker appears with the a00, but an error of 'parity error' blue screen i used to have dissapeared.
i ll wait for a new drivers release which probably solve this flicker or get in touch with dell to see whether it is a hardware problem.
best

If so, it may be your video driver...
