Memory in System Setup not recognized in WinME
I have a Dell Dimension 8100 running WinME. I have 256MB of RAM installed. The system setup and Dell Resource CD info both confirm that 256MB of RAM is installed. Whenever I run Norton System Info or MSINFO, both recognize only 196MB installed. It has been like this since the beginning. I thought the video card was using the missing 60MB.
The video card I had was the original NVidia GeForce 32MB. I bought, from Dell, an ATI RADEON PRO 128MB AGP video card. The installation went fine, however, Norton and MSINFO still only recognize 196MB.
So where isthe 60MB? Dell has been unable to answer. I've run all the tests and procedures they've asked, including upgrading the BIOS to A09 and still the problem persists.
Is there some jumper or switch on the motherboard that is allocating the 60MB somewhere else. Surely someone else has run accross this problem.
I don't want to buy more RAM not knowing what has happened to 25% of the memory installed.

Unbeleiveable Steve. Thanks. After working with 5 different Dell support personnel you hit it on the head. I now have all 256MB. Why would Dell have shipped it like that or is it possible some software changed it, because I certainly didn't?
Thanks again.
Jim

Go to Start > Run and type msconfig followed by Enter. On the General tab, click on the Advanced button and makes sure the box next to "Limit memory to ____" is not checked.
