It depends on the mainboard -- may we know what Dell model you intend to install these in?

If the 4 slots are identical color and the exact ame distance apart, fill the two slots closest to the processor.   If you have 2 sets of slots... ( 2 pairs of slots, one colored blue, other green or white) you need to fill the two that are the same color.. This should keep memory functionality consistant.
