With a 533Mhz FSB the memory is reduced to 333Mhz instead of running at the normal 400Mhz.
The 6.4GB transfer rate posted on the site is the maximum transfer rate you
would get with a 800Mhz FSB and if you were using Dual Channel DDR memory.
In Single Channel with a 400Mhz memory speed you would only get 3.2GB transfer rate.
With a 533Mhz FSB and memory speed reduced to 333Mhz, you would get 2.7GB single channel, and 5.4GB dual channel transfer rates.

                 That is what I thought, but that is NOT what Dell is advertising. It is "false" advertising, is it not, the transfer rate of 6.4 per second, it is a big difference from the bus speeds, so why doe's Dell list it as 6.4Gb ps transfer? (It is in the configuration pages where consumers peruse the info to make decisions to purchase, I might not be happy with the 8300 as is, beings now, it is not as advertised) Thank-you for your time and input, it is much appreciated, Sincerely, Rob :)

I ordered an 8300 (Its on its way ).  I ordered it with the 3.06G cpu and 512MB DDR SDRAM.  Here are my questions:

Is the DDR SDRAM called "Dual Channel" OR is the Dual Channel referring to the mobo?  So is it ordinary DDR SDRAM? 

Could you please give the specs. of the RAM in case I want to buy some more?  For Example:  Is it PC2700? Non-Parity? Unbuffered? Non-ECC? Is it a certain speed?

It seems nearly impossible to collect this information on this confusing configuration.  Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

                 It better be PC 3200 Memory, DDR Dual Channel, otherwise, they will be in deep with they way they promoted this system. It is still listed as PC 3200 Dual Channel, at 6.4 GB per second transfer, but, as Karell already pointed out, the 533 bus make's the speed only 5.4 GB transfer speed, which the PC 3200 memory would be able to "step-down" to, it will still be a kick asz system, but, Please, Karell, we want the specs and more! Is it the 875P chipset, ready for Serial ATA? Raid? Thanks, Sincerely, Rob

               Here are the specs for the memory shipping in my system, can you make out the "cryptic" serial code they use? It doe's state "Dual In-Line", they better have it as Dual channel, that is all I am saying for now, and it better be PC3200, I really am gonna miss the basterd child of the memory family, long live Rambus!!!!....Rob

The spec's indicates two 512Mb 333MHz DDR DIMM's (dual in-line memory module).

So you have 1Gb memory with a max speed of 5.4Gb/sec in your 8300 system.

To use the max memory-speed in a 8300 you need the more expensive DDR 400MHz memory (than you get the full 6.4Gb/sec memory access).

Note: Only the 3.00GHz 800MHz FSB processor (or better) would use the full 6.4Gb/sec...

The 8300 with the 533fsb is just as fast as the XPS on many marks (XPS my Man, XPS) and faster on quite a few of the benchmrks.. They just had a lapse or a brain tart.......
