Memory

Just put in a stick of Micron 64MB of PC100 (8 * 64 SDRAM), into my GX100, and it wouldn't boot, but did give off a series of beeps. I thought the GX100 could take PC100 RAM.

Any ideas ???

Thanks.

For some reason, Dells are finicky with sticks.  I bought a 256 stick that would absolutely not go into the second slot of my GX110.  I tried to turn the Dell on with the slot locks only partway closed and I got a series of beeps.  However, the stick did fit, with some pressure, into a Compaq slot where it worked perfectly.

So I guess the beeps only indicate that the stick is not fully in, and is not a definite indicator that the stick is not working or that the system canot work with the stick.

Can you try the stick in another computer?

Try putting it in different slots. I had to switch my entire RAM configuration just to get them working.

the gx100 does not have ecc slots (72 bit). I've seen problems trying to put ecc memory into it. And yes, I know, theoritically it should downgrade it to 64 bit but it can cause problems from what I've experienced. Buttry it in another slot and see if you can try it in another system as the memory could be defective.
