When you get ready to reinstall MS Word call Dell and they can provide a number that should work for that program. Dell does not have the original number that was given to you.
Hi,
You will want to go to Start | Run | enter regedit in the field and OK the run. When the editor opens, choose Edit | Find, and enter ProductKey in the field. OK it. I am hoping you can turn one up for Word, because after I posted what I did, I remembered that Microsoft had gone to a different way of entering the needed number; using Word 97, the number you can find under Help | About Word is the one you enter, but when I got Office 2000, they were using a 25-character string which is converted to the Product ID you see in Help | About Word. In other words, you will need a Key. If you do this, you will definitely find one for Windows, but this will not work for Word. If you cannot find one for Word, then you should call Dell and see if they can give you a substitute number. Sorry for the confusion :(

Hi Jim,
I'm sorry; I'd hoped I was wrong for your install where I am working with an Office install. I tried every permutation of my Product Key that I could think of, hoping I could locate it in the registry and tell you where to look, but was not able to.
Hopefully Dell can give you a substitute number for it, and that will take care of the problem.

Hi,
To get your own number, open Word, choose Help | About Word, and your own Product ID number should be here for you. If not, post back; a number can be retrieved from the registry.
