monitor stuck in sleep mode?
I have a Dell 3000 with XP Home. I just moved and when I set up & plugged in my computer there was a green light lit for the cd drive and one lit on the right of the power button but the light left of the power button is amber and so is the light on the monitor. A message comes up on the monitor saying to press any button or move the mouse and it will start, but it doesn't. I tried pressing the power button until it shuts off and restart it but the same thing happened. What is going on & how do I get it going? It worked fine before I moved. I packed it very carefully. PLMK Thanks

Hi, I had the same problem. My monitor when turned on would be in the sleep mode also and nothing would get it unstuck. Belive me I tried everything. I was ready to start taking out the screws and start tinkering inside. While I was showing my mom the duct tape holdin up a hard drive we were talking and I found out my VGA plug was bad. She she is using one of my four monitors. So I thought change the plug. IT WORKED. MY PLUG WIRE WAS BAD. So today off to savers.

Here is what Dell says:
# If the power light is blinking amber, the computer is receiving electrical power, but an internal power problem might exist.
* Ensure that the voltage selection switch is set to match the AC power at your location (if applicable).
* Ensure that the processor power cable is securely connected to the system board.
# If the power light is steady amber, a device might be malfunctioning or incorrectly installed.
* Remove and then reinstall the memory modules.
* Remove and then reinstall any cards.
* Remove and then reinstall the graphics card, if applicable.
