If you find out, let me know. I have been having the same problem but when I do different tasks. I was using a tv tuner card, and when I started to watch tv, all of a sudden the curser froze. Like you described, you can still move the mouse, and the buttons highlight when you point over them, but you cant see what your pointing or where your pointing. The actual cursor is froze in one spot. I can sometimes manage to fine the start button and shut down normally, but not always. When the computer restarts, it works fine. It will work fine with any other programs untill I try to watch tv. Then, it freezes again. I have reformatted my hard drive and did a clean instal, and found that now I dont have the freezing cursor at all. I can do ANYTHING with this machine and never get the cursor to freeze. A clean install might be in order for you too.

well, in non computer terms, its erasing the whole thing, and then putting it back. If you use the cd rom and boot disk that came with your system, you should be able to do it easily. I would advise though, that you call dell tech and have them on the phone to guide you through the whole process. If you have ANY problems, they will be right there to tell you how to fix them. Even though I know for a fact that I can do it without them, sometimes its just assuring that I have them on the phone just in case a problem arrises. Or even a question. They will be more than happy to assist you. I dont know why, but for the last week, every single time I have called tech support, during all hours of the day, i have gotten right through. I didnt even have time to listen to the "on hold" music. From what I hear, they added more services and people to answer calls. But either way, someone will be able to walk you through it.

Just keep in mind that anything that you added on your computer is not going to be there anymore. Make sure you make backup copies of pictures, songs, saved faxes, saved photocopies, and anything else like that that you would like to keep. IF it is not something you added on there, dont worry about them because it will be on the other system too. The only thing important that will be missing is stuff you added. You are going to put your computer back to how it was when you just pulled it out of the box. It will be brand new again. Any settings you might have done like upgrade drivers or stuff, your going to have to do again. You will be up and running in about an hour depending how fast you are at following directions.
